Tobias Moretti

Tobias Moretti, born in Gries am Brenner in 1959, studied music at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and acting at the Otto Falckenberg School of the Performing Arts in Munich. He left his first engagement at the Staatstheater Hannover to join the Munich Residenztheater under the artistic direction of Frank Baumbauer, was a member of the ensemble at the Munich Kammerspiele, and made his Burgtheater debut in 1995. Besides his stage work at numerous theatres and festivals (including Schauspielhaus Bochum, Salzburg Festival, Theater an der Wien), he also has a large number of film and TV credits. Tobias Moretti’s work relationship with Martin Kušej goes back many years and includes such productions as König Ottokars Glück und Ende (King Ottokar’s Fortune and End) at the Burgtheater and Der Weibsteufel (The She-Devil). Among the many prizes Moretti has received are the Grimme Award and several Romy Awards (most recently in 2017). He also received the Gertrud Eysoldt Ring of the German Academy of the Performing Arts for his role in King Ottokar's Fortune and End, the German Film Prize in 2014 and the Grand Diagonale Prize for Acting in 2015. Moretti joined the Burgtheater ensemble as a permanent member in the 2019/20 season and stayed there until 2022/23.
