Sophie von Kessel
Sophie von Kessel was born in Mexico City and studied at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna and at Juilliard in New York. She later joined the ensemble at the Munich Kammerspiele and also performed at the Schauspiel in Cologne and the Deutsches Theater Berlin. In 2008 and 2009 she played the role of the “Paramour” in Jedermann (Everyman) at the Salzburg Festival. From 2001 onward she frequently graced the stage of the Residenztheater in Munich and joined the ensemble there in 2011. Directors she has worked with include Dieter Dorn, Martin Kušej, Jan Bosse, Andreas Kriegenburg and Mateja Koležnik. In 2017 she acted alongside John Malkovich in Just Call Me God, which premiered at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg. As of the 2020/21 season, Sophie von Kessel is leaving Munich to join the Burgtheater. She is no stranger to the Burgtheater, having already made a guest appearance in the Burgtheater’s 2019/20 production of Der Nackte Wahnsinn (Noises Off).
