In line with this season’s political focus, this reading is dedicated to Thomas Bernhard, who had a unique way of exploring Austria’s socio-political structures in his work. Using an excerpt from Bernhard’s MY PRIZES as a jumping-off point, Tamara Metelka and Nicholas Ofczarek trace the course of events leading up to his receiving the Austrian State Prize for Literature, providing a both droll and astute analysis of the problematic relationship between art and politics. Before the reading, Felix Kammerer will present texts that paint a broader and more precise picture of Thomas Bernhard as a political and critical thinker.
